Dutch assistant coach apologizes for filming footballers in locker room

Ruud Gullit, assistant coach for the Dutch national football team, expressed regret for filming a video with the footballers in the locker room after the match between the Netherlands and Bulgaria on Sunday evening. The video caused some controversy when he posted it on social media, NU.nl reports.

Gullit posted the short video filmed in the dressing rooms on his social media channels shortly after the World Cup qualifying match, which the Netherlands won 3-1. He spoke of a "fantastic match". Coach Dick Advocaat was confronted by the footage while giving an interview to broadcaster NOS, and was anything but happy about it. "It's very strange that my assistant does something like that and I will address him on it", Advocaat said to the broadcaster.

That conversation happened on Sunday night still, according to a statement placed on the KNVB site. Gullit expressed his regret. In the statement Advocaat says that he told Gullit that he found the video to be an inappropriate action, and that is the end of it. "There's no problem between Ruud and me. We are leaving this behind us."

"I made that video in my enthusiasm, looking back, I shouldn't have done it", Gullit said. He too stated that this is the end of the affair.

With the 3-1 victory against Bulgaria, the Netherlands is now in third place in Group A of the European World Cup qualifiers. Oranje is four points behind leader France and three behind Sweden in second place. On October 7th the Dutch team is playing an away game against Belarus. And three days later a home match against Sweden.
