Rotterdam terror threat suspect officially charged with involvement in terrorism
The Public Prosecutor officially suspects Jimmy F. of involvement in terrorism, a spokesperson confirmed to NU.nl. The 22-year-old man was arrested for threatening to commit a terrorist attack on the Maassilo in Rotterdam last week. The court in Rotterdam remanded him into custody for two weeks on Wednesday morning, according to Omroep Brabant.
The Public Prosecutor spokesperson would say nothing more about the charges against F.
On August 23rd, a concert by American band Allah-Las in the Maassilo was canceled after the Spanish police tipped off the Dutch authorities about a possible threat. F. was arrested in his home in Zevenbergen during the early hours of the following morning. He is suspected of posting the threat online, using encrypted messaging service Telegram.
How serious the threat was is unclear. On Saturday, Rotterdam Mayor Ahmed Aboutaleb said that he does not consider canceling the concert to be an overreaction. According to him, the threat was very detailed and made a serious impression.
