Perpetrator in fatal subway stabbing did not know victim: Prosecutor

It seems that the man who stabbed a 38-year-old man to death on an Amsterdam subway on Thursday, did not know his victim, the Public Prosecutor said during the suspect's arraignment on Monday. The motive for the attack is still unclear, Het Parool reports.

The 27-year-old man stabbed his victim on subway line 53 during rush hour on Thursday. The subway was passing Venserpolder at the time. Emergency services tried to resuscitate the victim, but it was to no avail. The suspect was arrested almost immediately after the stabbing.

On Monday the magistrate decided that the suspect's mental state must be examined. He was also remanded into custody for two weeks.
