Young man, 18, killed in industrial accident in Gelderland town

An 18-year-old man from Wijchen was killed in an industrial accident on Christiaan Huygensstraat in his home town on Friday. He was critically injured when he got stuck in the lifting mechanism of a lifting shovel that was being repaired. He died in hospital, the Gelderlander reports.

The accident happened around 12:45 p.m. Emergency services responded en masse. There were police, paramedics, firefighters and a trauma helicopter at the scene.

Together they managed to free the young man and he was rushed to Radboud UMC in Nijmegen by ambulance, accompanied by a specialized doctor. But it was to no avail. The young man died at the hospital.

The Inspectorate for Social Affairs and Employment is investigating what happened.
