Dutch men arrested in €225 million cocaine discovery at Belgium port

Three Dutch and one Belgian were arrested in a massive drug bust in the port of Oostende in Belgium. The Belgian authorities discovered some 1,500 kilograms of uncut cocaine in a fake bottom of an old fishing boat, according to Belgian broadcaster VTM. The drugs' value is estimated at around 225 million euros.

The arrests formed part of an ongoing investigation into drug trafficking between South America and Europe. The fishing boat was under surveillance for some time, as the Belgian authorities believed it was being used by an international drug gang. The boat was searched while moored on Baelskaai and then transported to Zeebrugge for more extensive investigation.

All four detainees were arrested on suspicion of involvement in drug trafficking. They will be arraigned on Friday.
