Jan Roos quits as leader of right-wing party VNL; starting own opinion blog

Jan Roos is taking leave of political party Voor Nederland (VNL), he announced on Thursday. Instead he will be launching his own online opinion page, NU.nl reports.

Roos participated in the parliamentary elections in March, but VNL did not win any parliamentary seats. "We were not able to achieve what we wanted to achieve", he said. "It's not what I hoped for, but I am not ready to give up on my opinion." He will give this opinion on his own site in future.

The future of the VNL without Roos is unclear.

Roos previously wrote columns for PowNed and GeenStijl. With GeenPeil he successfully campaigned for a referendum against an association agreement between the European Union and Ukraine.
