Dog owner abandons girl, 6, after gruesome off-leash biting incident
On Tuesday a dog owner abandoned a wounded 6-year-old girl after her dog attacked the child on the outskirts of Diepenheim, Overijssel. The dog was not on a leash when it attacked the girl, leaving her with deep bites on her leg, the police said.
The incident happened around 5:00 p.m. in a wooded area on Kleidijk. The owner of the dog, an older woman of small stature, took her dog and left the girl to her fate. The girl could not tell the police what type of dog it was, only that it was a big dark colored dog with light spots.
The girl was treated in hospital.
On Tuesday night the police managed to track down the dog owner. The dog was confiscated to be evaluated by a specialist. The woman will be questioned, the police said.
The police posted photos of the girl's injuries on Facebook. They may be shocking to sensitive people.
