Getaway car in Zoetermeer double murder found in Rotterdam; two perpetrators sought
The police are looking for two perpetrators in a shooting that left two men dead in Zoetermeer on Tuesday. The car the gunmen used to flee the scene was recovered in Rotterdam, the police said in a statement.
The shooting happened in the parking lot of a gym on Edisonstraat around 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday. Two men were shot and killed while sitting in a black Mercedes. The police have not officially identified the victims yet, but according to both the Telegraaf and AD they were a father and son who lived in a trailer park about a kilometer from where they were killed. Both were called Rene van Doorn.
Witnesses saw the perpetrators leave the scene of the murders in a black BMW. The car was found burnt out a few streets away a short time later. The police believe the car was stolen. Nearby a Volkswagen with a Belgian registration number was found. Investigators believe that the perpetrators planned to continue their flight in the Volkswagen. Instead they hijacked an Opel Corsa and fled further in that. Why they did so is unclear. The Opel Corsa was recovered in Rotterdam on Tuesday night.
The police are looking for two perpetrators. One was wearing a dark colored coat, jeans and a ski-mask. No description is available for the second perpetrator.
The motive for the murders is still unclear. Residents of the trailer park on Rokkenveenseweg, where the victims lived, speculate that an old feud with a family in another trailer park may be behind it, according to AD. The residents told the newspaper that an alderman recently came up with a plan to move the Van Doorn family to this other trailer park. Father Rene immediately said that it would end in killing. According to the residents, the feud between the families escalated to a fatal shooting in 1994.
