Anti-Islam PVV to take part in 60 local elections
The PVV plans to take part in the municipal elections of 60 municipalities spread over all 12 Dutch provinces next year, party leader Geert Wilders announced in an interview with AD on Wednesday.
The party will take part in the local elections of municipalities in which the PVV has a lot of support, such as Spijkenisse, Edam-Volendam and Ruchpen and medium sized towns like Nieuwegein, Vlaardingen and Zoetermeer. The PVV will also go for municipalities where the party did well during the parliamentary election last month.
Over the weekend Wilders already announced that his party will participate in the municipal elections in Rotterdam, Urk, Enschede, Almelo and Twenterand. Currently the PVV is only active in The Hague and Almere.
"This is therefore a gigantic step, but if you are the second party in the Netherlands, that creates obligations", Wilders said to the newspaper. According to him the candidates list in some municipalities is 'already almost done', while others still need some work. "They are real PVV'ers. I pick them like that. People who have heart for the common man and that stand for our Dutch identity. They will then take on local issues, because every municipality is different."
The party will announce in June exactly which municipal elections it will take part in.
