Green party's youth wing warns leader Jesse Klaver not to compromise the party

GroenLinks youth movement Dwars is warning party leader Jesse Klaver not to jump into a coalition too quickly. If GroenLinks has to compromise too much on its goals, it may be better not to be part of the government, Dwars chairman Noortje Blokhuis said to BNR.

The fact that the first coalition formation being examined is "very exciting", Blohuis said. "The first question on the table is if we should even do it. It depends entirely on whom GroenLinks can govern with and what the parties are willing to compromise on for us."

The first coalition formation being examined by Edith Schippers today is one consisting of VVD, CDA, D66 and GroenLinks.

Blokhuis does not like that formation much. "In this combination GroenLinks is helping a right-wing cabinet to the majority. That we would rather not see. It is important that steps are taken around sustainability and that income differences are reduced. On this points concrete steps need to be taken, otherwise I don't think governing worth it."

A compromise will be especially difficult to reach on income equality, Blokhuis expects. "CDA and VVD are absolutely not for leveling measures, GroenLinks is. That may well become the most stressful."
