Amsterdam toddler's kidnapper arrested in Iran
One of the men involved in kidnapping 2-year-old Insiya Hemani from Amsterdam last year, was arrested at Tehran airport in Iran. An observant security guard caught Imran S., the cousin of Insiya's father Shehzad Hemani, the Telegraaf reports.
Shehzad Hemani is believed to be behind the kidnapping. He is still at large and believed to be in India with his kidnapped daughter.
Over the weekend Imran S. was on a pilgrimage with a group. He was stopped at the Mumbai airport, but was eventually allowed to continue with his travels. During a stopover at Tehran, security guards checked his passport against an Interpol system for internationally wanted persons. The guards realized he was wanted for kidnapping and took him into custody.
On Sunday the Amsterdam police could not confirm to the newspaper whether Imran S. was indeed in custody. But his tour operator confirmed that he was held for child abduction.
Last week a man was arrested in the United States on suspicion of making preparations for Insiya's kidnapping. This means that all men involved in the girl's abduction, except for Shehzad Hemani, have been arrested, according to RTL Nieuws.
What these arrests means for Insiya is unclear. As far as is known the little girl is still in India.
Insiya was taken by force from an apartment in Amsterdam in September last year. In December Shehzad Hemani stated that he took the girl to "save her", but her mother's lawyer calls this nonsense.
In January two other suspects in this case appeared in court for the first time. They claimed that they were only trying to help a distraught father when they took the little girl.
