Woman run over at Amsterdam pedestrian crossing

A 23-year-old woman is in critical condition in an Amsterdam hospital after she was run over by a car while crossing the street at a pedestrian crossing on Spaklerweg on Thursday, the police said in a statement

According to the police, the 66-year-old driver of the car was arrested. He was taken to a police station for questioning and a breathalyzer test. No alcohol was found in his system and he was released.

The police initially said that the victim died, but later called it a "mistake in communication". The woman is in hospital with critical injuries.
