Hard wind & snow disrupting Schiphol air traffic, trains

The winter weather conditions are causing trouble for passengers. Schiphol airports expects flight delays due to strong winds. And train traffic in the Netherlands already encountered several problems due to snow and icy tracks.

"Due to strong winds, flights from/to Schiphol might be delayed. Check your airline for flight information", Schipphol wrote on Twitter.

Fewer trains are traveling between 's-Hertogenbosch and Sittard today due to the weather conditions. NS advises travelers to take account of 15 minutes extra travel time. Trains between Arnhem Centraal, Ede and Wageneningen are also delayed because of a tree blown onto the track. The tree has been removed, but it will take some time before trains are running on schedule again.

The weather also caused several problems on Dutch roads this morning.

Some 180 train passengers spent Thursday night stuck in a TGV train, which got stranded by a broken overhead in the French Albert, according to the Volkskrant. The stormy weather hampered rescue efforts and the passengers ended up spending the night on the train, which was en route from Brussels to Paris. The train was finally towed to Arras on Friday morning.

A code yellow weather warning is still in effect for most of the Netherlands. The southeastern parts of the country should watch out for icy, slick roads, according to meteorological institute KNMI. And the coastal provinces are dealing with strong winds, which will only get stronger during the course of the afternoon.
