Jihad suspect from Eindhoven caught in Bulgaria, extradited to NL

Suspected jihadist Lieke S. from Eindhoven was extradited from Bulgaria to the Netherlands. The Koninklijke Marechaussee took her into custody at Schiphol airport on Friday morning, AD reports.

The 33-year-old woman was arrested in Bulgaria on December 23rd, at the request of the Dutch Public Prosecutor. The prosecutor in Den Bosch suspects her of trying to join terrorist organization ISIS in order to take part in the violent struggle in Syria.

The police will question Lieke S. in the coming days. Whether she will be prosecuted will be determined by the police investigation.

According to AD, Lieke S. left her Eindhoven home about three months ago and headed towards Syria. She spent some time stuck on the border between Turkey and Bulgaria before being arrested.

The Koninklijke Marechaussee is a policing force that works as part of the Dutch military. It is responsible for border security, including security at airports.
