Amsterdam limits Gay Pride events to reduce crowds

Amsterdam is reducing the number street and square events during future Gay Prides in an effort to keep the crowds in the city under control, Mayor Eberhard van der Laan wrote in a letter to the city council on Friday, NU.nl reports

The city wants to spread visitors more during the week long event. For that reason, the traditional fair on Dam square will soon be a thing of the past. The organizer's permit runs out in 2019 and wil not be extended. Events will also be moved to venues outside of the city such as in Wstpoort and Tuinen van West.

The municipality also plans to tackle noise pollution. The sound level allowed at each venue will be customized, because external factors such as the nature and the buildings itself all influence the noise.

The mayor wants to set new guidelines in the coming months, to be implemented before King's Day next year. The new guidelines will apply to all events.
