DUTCH JOURNALIST INJURED IN IRAQI WAR ZONE

Journalist Bud Wichers from the Gelderland village of Gorssel was injured near irkuk in Iraq on Friday. He had to jump out of the way of a sniper bullet and sustained bruises and fractures in the fall, according to the Gelderlander.

The BNR journalist was taken to hospital for treatment, where one arm was put in a cast. Wichers is in Iraq reporting on fighting between ISIS combatants and their opponents.

The day before Wichers also escaped death when a mortar shell landed a few meters away from his car in Mosul and did not explode.

He realizes how lucky he is to survive both incidents relatively unschathed. "I have an angel on my shoulder." he said, according to the Gelderlander.

Early this month another Dutch journalist, Jeroen Oerlemans, was killed by an ISIS sniper in Libya.
