Friday strike planned for Arriva rail workers on Emmen-Zwolle route

Train traffic may come to a halt tomorrow morning on the Vechtdal line between Emmen and Zwolle. Members of union VVMC plan to strike from 4:30 a.m. to 9:00 a.m. on Friday. The strike is to show dissatisfaction with public transit company Arriva, NU.nl reports. According to VVMC, the wage difference between NS employees and Arriva employees is too big. The union therefore does not accept the collective bargaining agreement the transporter is proposing. The VVMC has over 4 thousand members. The union will try to "spare the traveler as much as possible" during the strike, VVMC leader Wim Eilert said. A spokesperson for Arriva called the strike "disproportionate". The company will deploy buses to minimize inconvenience to travelers.
