Ten years in prison for nurse's murder in parking lot

On Wednesday the court convicted John F. of murdering his ex-girlfriend Linda van der Giesen in August last year and sentenced him to 10 years in prison and institutionalized psychiatric treatment. In a previous hearing F. confessed to shooting the 28-year-old woman in the parking lot of the TweeSteden hospital in Waalwijk, where she worked as a nurse, the Telegraaf reports. F. told the court that he was in a desperate state. Linda and another ex were making his life hell after he was caught cheating. He had financial troubles. And he was not allowed to see his son. So he decided to kill himself in front of Linda.. But instead he blacked out and shot her in a psychosis, he claims. Based on the accounts of several eye witnesses, the court decided that F.'s version of events were untrue. According to witnesses, he waited around the parking lot for Linda for at least 30 minutes. He approached her with a drawn pistol. In addition to that, he said on August 2nd, eight days before the murder, that he was buying a gun to shoot Linda. This shows a preconceived plan, according to the court. Psychiatrists diagnosed F. with a narcissistic personality disorder, increasing the chance of recurrence. Which is why the court added institutionalized psychiatric care to his sentence. The sentence is equal to what the prosecutor demanded. This case dropped the police in hot water, because Linda reported being threatened by F. two weeks before her murder. She also notified the police that he may have a gun. A committee set up to investigate the events surrounding this case also concluded that the police failed in their duty to protect the plastic surgery nurse.
