No trains between Brabant and Zuid-Holland due to emergency repairs

There will be no trains traveling between Brabant and Zuid-Holland from after morning rush hour on Tuesday due to emergency repairs to the rails on the Moerdijkbrug. Some 75 thousand people use that railway route every day, NOS reports. Rail traffic will slowly start picking up again from 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday, but with much fewer trains than usual until 9:00 p.m. The emergency repairs are needed due to a fracture in the railway on the bridge. Repairing such a break is a time consuming operation as the tracks are molded to the bridge. This means the tracks must first be removed, then the crack can be welded and then the tracks must be replaced. NS is deploying buses between Lage Zwaluwe and Dordrecht for travelers. This is not the first time emergency repairs are needed on the Moerdijkbrug this past year. The welds on the bridge wear out relatively quickly, a ProRail spokesperson said to NOS. The rail manager is therefore working on a more structural solution to this problem.
