Arrest in 26 year old murder case after DNA match

A 52-year-old man was arrested in Amsterdam on Monday on suspicion of involvement in the murder of Miriam Sharon in The Hague on October 8th, 1990. A DNA match led to the man's arrest, almost 26 years after the fact, the police said on Wednesday. Miriam Sharon was an Israeli woman who came to the Netherlands after she started a relationship with a Dutch man. She and her two young children lived on Regetesselaan in the Hague. At the age of 35, Miriam was murdered in her own home. The police immediately launched an investigation, but no arrests were made and the case eventually ended up in the cold case pile. Recently The Hague's cold case team reexamined the file and tested various trace evidence found in the victim's home 26 years ago with today's techniques. This resulted in a DNA match and the arrest of a suspect, who will be arraigned on Thursday. Nothing further was said about the suspect. It is unclear whether he knew the victim or was connected to her in any way. The police also did not say whether the man is Dutch or lives in Amsterdam or any further details. According to the police, the motive for the murder is still very much a mystery. The cold case team would therefore like to get in touch with the victim's friends, acquaintances, family members or any other persons who were in contact with Miriam Sharon. This includes people who already spoke to the police during the investigation 26 years ago The police state that this sit the first time such an old cold case led to an arrest.
