Maastricht teen convicted for trying to join ISIS

On Tuesday the court in Limburg convicted a 15-year-old girl of trying to join a terrorist organization. The girl was caught preparing to join Islamic State last year, AD reports. The court sentenced the teenager to 8 months juvenile detention, 7 months and 14 days of which conditionally suspended. She was also given a 2 year probation period, during which she will be electronically monitored. She is is also not allowed to visit any international airport in the Netherlands during her probation and must participate in discussions with a theologian. The judges considered it proven that the girl was preparing for a trip to Syria to join the ISIS caliphate. Evidence of this was found in chats on her phone, in which she discussed traveling to the caliphate and possibilities for departure from an airport in Dusseldorf with other ISIS supporters.
