Arrests made in Leiden murder of Amsterdam mistaken identity target

So far the police made three arrests in the investigation into the murder of a 50-year-old man from Leiden in June of this year, the police announced in a statement on Tuesday. The latest arrest, that of a 30-year-old man from Amsterdam, was made on Tuesday morning. The victim, Zeynel E., was gunned down on Rooseveltstraat in Leiden on Tuesday, June 14th around 6:00 p.m. He was seriously injured by several bullets and died in hospital two days later. The Turkish-born man survived an assassination attempt in an Amsterdam office building on Derkinderenstraat on November 11th last year. He was the director of the construction company situated in the building. A few weeks earlier, Turkish former lawyer Haydar Zengin was shot and killed in the same building. It is believed that Zengin was the victim of mistaken identity and that E. was the intended target. The investigation into E.'s murder led the police to two suspects. On July 21st investigators arrested a 34-year-old from Zaandam and a 23-year-old from Purmerend. On August 4th the magistrate extended the custody for both men with 90 days. Further investigation led to the 30-year-old man from Amsterdam, who was arrested at around 5:00 a.m. this morning. He is in custody for questioning and the police are investigating how he is connected to the fatal shooting. Despite these arrests, the investigators are still looking for information about the shooting.
