Investigation into 2015 chase, fatal shooting nets eight arrests

The police arrested a total of eight people on Monday in the investigation into the assassination of Sven Prince in Heerlen last year. Three of these detainees are suspected of involvement in the assassination, one of violating the weapons and ammunition act and the other four were found with narcotics during home searches, the police said in a statement. Sven Prins, 30-years-old from Brunssum, was gunned down on Heerenweg in Heelrlen on September 25th last year. Prins and a friend were driving on Torenstraat in Brunssum when another car started chasing them. The chase ended on Heerenweg, where the fatal shooting happened. Investigation into the shooting led the police to three men from Brunssum, age 31, 36 and 38 years. They were arrested in their homes early on Monday morning. The police hope that these arrests will lead to some clarity regarding the motive and who was responsible for Prins' death. Detectives also tracked down a 27-year-old man from Amsterdam in the investigation. He was also arrested on Monday on suspicion of violating the Weapons and Ammunition Act. The police are investigating whether and how he was involved in Prins' assassination. He is in custody for questioning and further investigation. Another four suspects were arrested while the police searched the first four suspects' homes. They are all from Brunssum, two women aged 51 and 41 and two men aged 54 and 34. They were all present in the homes while they were being searched and were arrested based on the discovery of drugs and weapons. The 51-year-old woman and two men were arrested on suspicion of violating the Weapons and Ammunition Act. The other woman was arrested on suspicion of violating the Opium Act.
