Police: Bait phones at Amsterdam’s Pride parade will catch pickpockets

In the fight against pickpockets during EuroPride currently ongoing in Amsterdam, the Dutch police are using so-called bait phones in an attempt to catch pickpockets in the act, the police said in a statement. Officers in uniform and in civilian clothing will be using these phones, equipped with 'track and trace'. The police won't say exactly how these phones will be used as "not to make pickpockets any wiser than they already are". During the first weekend of the 16-day EuroPride event, three men were caught using one of these phones. The police also issued tips to EuroPride attendees on how to avoid being the victim of a pickpocket.
