Dutch suspect in Amanda Todd suicide may be extradited to Canada

Aydin C. may be extradited to Canada for his suspected involvement in the death of Canadian teen Amanda Todd, the court in Amsterdam ruled on Tuesday. He can be extradited as soon as the criminal proceedings running against him in the Netherlands are done, ANP reports. In the Netherlands the 38-year-old Tilburg man is suspected of sexually extorting 39 girls via webcam. His case will likely appear in court early next year. Once he is sentenced, Minister Ard van der Steur of Security and Justice can make the final decision on whether he will be extradited to Canada. Fifteen year old Amanda Todd committed suicide in 2012 after being extorted online. The Canadian authorities believe C. threatened to publish nude photos of the teenage girl online. In Canada he is suspected of extortion, luring children over the internet, threats or stalking and the possession of child pornography with the intent to distribute. "The court finds that the acts for which extradition is requested is punishable both by Canadian and Dutch law and that a sentence of more than a year may be imposed", the court ruled. The court added the condition that Canada must guarantee that C., if convicted, will serve his sentence in the Netherlands. There is an extradition treaty between the Netherlands and Canada. In addition to the Netherlands and Canada, it is believed that C. also has victims in Norway, the Untied States and the United Kingdom.
