Longest rainfall in 20 years expected across Netherlands today

A very wet Monday lies ahead of the Netherlands. Weather service Weerplaza expects between 12 and 15 straight hours of rain today. The rain will hit the western coast during early morning already and may cause traffic problems in especially the Hague and Rotterdam during morning rush hour. The cloudy weather will spread steadily across the country and Weerplaza expects that by noon it will rain everywhere in the Netherlands. The wet weather may cause long traffic jams during the evening rush hour. Afternoon temperatures will be around 16 to 17 degrees. During the night the rainy weather will leave the Netherlands for Germany. As of Tuesday, the official start of summer, Weerplaza expects better weather. According to the weather service, 12 to 15 hours of rain is exceptionally long for June. De Bilt only experienced more than 15 hours of rain seven times since weather measurements started in 1901. The last time was on June 4th, 1994, when it rained more than 19 hours straight.
