Woman shot in Amsterdam banned from her own neighborhood

A woman shot in front of her home Amsterdam Rivierenbuurt last week was banned from returning to the area, Amsterdam Mayor Eberhard van der Laan announced on Thursday. The mayor hopes that by keeping her away from the home she shares with her family on Oude IJselstraat, he can protect them and other local residents from more violence, Het Parool reports. The shooting last week was the second attack seemingly directed at the family. A month ago a hand grenade exploded in front of the same home, damaging several parked cars but not hurting anyone. The woman, Zinna B., was injured in her hand and leg in the shooting. Van der Laan actually wants B. to move out of Oude IJselstraat. City lawyers are currently looking into whether she can be forced to do so, he wrote in a letter to local residents, according to the newspaper. Her three small children are already staying with grandparents in a different location. The Mayor also asked B.'s brother to stay away from the area, at least until it's clear who is responsible for the attacks. According to Het Parool, the reason for the violence may lie in criminals accusing B. and her husband of stealing hundreds of thousands in drug money. Ten detectives are working on the case, but so far no arrests were made. Van der Laan reiterated that the city's main concern is safety in the neighborhood and of the family. Many bodies are working together to ensure this safety and extra police surveillance will continue.
