Netherlands' treasured artwork to be stored in new depot

In future the national museums in the Netherlands will store their non-exhibited artworks in a single large depot. Construction of this depot will soon start in Amersfoort and it should be ready for use by 2020, RTL Nieuws reports. The depot will be 30 thousand square meters and have about 4 floors. In total there is room for 675 thousand works of art. The Rijksmuseum, the Dutch Open Air Museum, Museum Het Loo Palace and the National Heritage Council will all store artworks there. "For Amersfoort it is an honor to host the treasures of these leading national museums and the National Heritage Council", Amersfoort Mayor Lucas Bolsuis said. By storing the artworks together, the museums save costs and increase efficiency.
