Dutch banks not taking extra security measures after bank hacks

Banks in the Netherlands have no plans to take extra security measures after two banks were robbed digitally in a short time. According to the Dutch banking association NVB, Dutch banks' security is already at a sufficiently high level, NOS reports. On Monday morning the international banking organization SWIFT notified its 11 thousand members, including Dutch banks, that a second bank was hit by hackers. The first victim, a bank in Bangladesh, was attacked in February and the hackers managed to steal some 70 million euros. SWIFT wrote that these attacks are likely part of a larger attack on banks. The organization called on its members to urgently check their systems. "I'm not getting any signals that banks are going to adjust things right now", Bart van Leeuwen of the NVB said to broadcaster NOS. "The banks announced that they have confidence in SWIFT and that according to them the leak lies primarily with the affected banks." According to Van Leeuwen, Dutch banks are already very alert to these kinds of issues and often communicate on such matters with the National Cyber Security Center. Hendrik-Jan Eijpe of Rabobank agrees. "We have multiple firewalls that prevent malware. That security is an ongoing process and that naturally involves doing regular updates." he said to the broadcaster.
