Amsterdam police identify victim killed in Monday shootout

The victim of the fatal shooting in the Kikkenstein apartment building in Amsterdam Zuidoost on Monday morning was identified as 29 year old Abderrahim Belhadj, nickname Appie, the police announced.

Belhadj was gunned down in the apartment building around 5:30 a.m. According to Het Parool, he has a criminal record, but what crimes are involved is unclear, the newspaper writes. The police call his death an assassination. The police are looking to talk to anyone who can give more information about Belhadj's life or about what direction the perpetrator fled. The gunman was dressed all in black and left via the back end of the apartment building on foot, according to the police. A stolen scooter was also found near the building. It is unclear whether this scooter is linked to the assassination. Investigators would like to make contact with witnesses who can give more information on when the scooter was parked and who drove it. In addition to that, the police also want to talk to several specific witnesses. Surveillance camera footage show a man and a woman walk through the building's gallery minutes before the assassination. The woman was wearing a three-quarter, light colored jacket and carrying a bag. The man was wearing a shiny jacket and had short dark hair. Investigators also want to urgently make contact with a young man that spoke to Belhadj shortly before he was gunned down. The conversation happened near the building's elevator, two doors from where Belhadj was shot. The young man was wearing a light-colored T-shirt with long sleeves. He has a tall and slender build.
