Five police reports of "serious misconduct" by fmr. Amsterdam primary school principal

At least five reports have been filed with the Amsterdam police regarding “serious misconduct” by a former primary school principal, the police confirmed to RTL Nieuws. The police would not comment on the nature and severity of the suspicions against the man. It is also unclear whether his alleged misconduct involved the primary schools in Amsterdam and Almere at which he worked.

The first report against the former principal was filed by the Zonova childcare and education school group on December 12 last year. The group accused the man of “serious misconduct.” Several involved people subsequently filed separate reports. The alleged misconduct occurred between 2023 and 2024, the police said.

The man worked as the principal for two Zonova schools in Amsterdam Zuidoost - De Polsstok and De Bijmlerhorst. The Zonova board decided to file a police report against the man last summer after it became clear that a new employer in Almere also suspended him. The new employer, the Almere primary school De Watertuin, announced on January 12 that the man had been dismissed based on the results of internal investigations.

“Our children in Amsterdam Zuidoost deserve nothing less than our full commitment,” Zonova board chairman Dave Ensberg-Kleijkers said in a press release. “Where support may have been completely lacking before, we now want to offer it. We will do everything we can to try to alleviate the suffering of both children and parents, as well as (former) employees. I feel a great responsibility to make a difference and will not turn a blind eye to what happened.”

He did not specify what happened. Zonova has established an internal reporting center for children, parents, and employees, and says it will support those involved. The school group has called in the victim support organization Slachtofferhulp to provide assistance.
