Terrorism investigators arrest Roosendaal shoarma cafe owner

The owner of a shoarma cafe in Roosendaal was arrested last week. The Public Prosecutor believes he stands central to an investigation into the funding of the international jihad, BN De Stem reports. The suspect, 27-year-old Amr Y., turned him self in at a police station late last week. His lawyer told the newspaper that Y. was in vacation in his native Egypt, but returned immediately when he heard the police were looking for him. He traveled via Brussels to the Netherlands and was able to pass all borders without problems, according to the lawyer. In addition to financing terrorism, Y. is also suspected of involvement in a suspicious substance found in the home of fellow suspect Samir O. (57). The Public Prosecutor believes it is an explosive substance. Two weeks ago the police raided addresses in Roosendaal and arrested four suspects. The arrests are related to an investigation into money laundering, human trafficking and illegal possession of weapons. According to the newspaper, O. and two other suspects from Roosendaal will be arraigned on Wednesday. The Prosecutor wants to keep them in custody. All suspects are under restrictions and only allowed contact with their lawyers.
