Police find woman forced into sex work in Roosendaal building

The police found an Asian woman forced to work as a prostitute in a building in Roosendaal on Wednesday. “Distressing to see the living and working conditions of this lady. She is being exploited and other people are making a lot of money from this,” the Roosendaal police said on Instagram.

Officers went to check the building after the municipality received multiple reports about illegal prostitution. “Behind the door, we found an Asian lady who we suspected was a victim of human trafficking and forced to work in prostitution.”

The police spoke to her with the help of an interpreter and then transferred her to the Alien Police Department. “They will see how she can be helped.” The woman does not have a residency permit for the Netherlands.

The police are investigating. The municipality may impose administrative measures on the property owner, like closing the building or fining the owner.
