Dutch queen honors team rescuing migrants from Mediterranean Sea

Queen Maxima was present at the ceremony to award the Geuzen medal in the Grote Kerk in Vlaardingen on Monday. The medal was awarded to the MOAS foundation, which is focused on rescuing asylum seekers at sea, NOS reports. MOAS stands for Migrant Offshore Aid Station. Using ships and drones the team rescued some 13 thousand people from the Mediterranean Sea, the Aegean Sea and the Bay of Bengal so far. MOAS is a private organization founded by Christopher and Regina Catrabone from Malta. The Geuzen medal is awarded every year, since 1987, to people and organizations working for human rights and fighting against dictatorship, discrimination and racism. Eduard Nazarski, chairmen of Amnesty International Nederland, awarded the medal.
