Apeldoorn will hold a public gathering on April 30th to commemorate an attack on Queen's Day in 2009. The municipality initially planned a closed meeting only for relatives and those involved, but due to interest decided to extend open the event to the public, a spokesperson for the municipality said to Omroep Gelderland.

The Grote Kerk in Apeldoorn will be open for the commemoration from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on April 30th. There will be no official program, but there will be two showcases featuring cards, letters and stuffed animals left at the scene of the attack in 2009.

On Sunday evening a number of buildings in various Dutch cities were colored orange to draw attention to violence against women and girls. The United Nations proclaimed November 25th as the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women. Over the next 16 days, this campaign will get attention worldwide, reports.

In the Netherlands, at least 32 buildings in 22 different places were illuminated in orange on Sunday. These included the Grote Kerk in Breda, The EYE film museum in Amsterdam, and the Erasmus bridge and Euromast in Rotterdam.

The municipality of Dordrecht has announced the King's Day 2015 program, which will take place on Monday April 27th. Dordrecht is the first municipality to organize King's Day with a "new look". While Princess Beatrix will not be participating in this year's King's Day, the tree young princesses will be attending.
