Report: Terrorist attack on Dutch parliament thwarted; planned for Budget Day

A few days before Budget Day 2015, the Dutch secret services AIVD and MIVD foiled a possible attack on the building of the Tweede Kamer, the lower house of Dutch parliament, the Telegraaf reported on Tuesday. The newspaper reveals only a few details. A lawyer learned about plans for an attack and decided to violate confidentiality and report it. Nobody was arrested. But the report did give the secret services insight to the group discussing the plans - young Muslim radicals with ties to foreign rebel fighters in the Syrian war, according to the newspaper. Sources told the newspaper that there was no concrete evidence of the suspects actually preparing for the attack. It remained with talking and discussing among the young men. For this reason the AIVD and MIVD did not inform the Public Prosecutor.
