Portuguese man among 3 arrested in weekend Rotterdam shooting
The police arrested three suspects, including a 29-year-old Portuguese man, in connection with a shootout on Cronesteinstraat in Rotterdam during the early hours of Saturday morning. Dozens of shots were fired, but as far as is known, no one was injured. Several cars were hit and damaged.
The police control room received several reports of gunfire on Cronesteinstraat around 3:20 a.m. on Saturday. Several police units were dispatched to the scene.
At the scene witnesses told the officers that they saw someone running towards a nearby park. A police helicopter was deployed to help search for the suspect and soon found a man hiding in the park. The man started running again when officers approached him, and ignored their instructions. Shots were fired at the man and he surrendered. The 29-year-old Portuguese man was arrested. An automatic firearm was found near him.
Officers pulled over a car while investigating in the area of the shooting. The two people in the care, two 22 year old Rotterdam residents, were arrested on suspicion of being involved in the shooting.
The police are still investigating the circumstances surrounding the shooting and are calling on any witnesses who have not spoken to them yet to come forward.
