Some 2.7 million tune in for 1st Dutch Correspondents’ Dinner
The Netherlands 1st Correspondents' Dinner on NPO1 was the most watched program on Wednesday with 2.725 million viewers, according to foundation KijkOnderzoek's daily viewing figures.
This was the first time the Netherlands held a Correspondents' Dinner, a tradition loaned from the United States. In America the president speaks to the press in a humorous manner. In the Netherlands it was Prime Minister Mark Rutte joking about himself, politics and the media. Something he was quite nervous about beforehand.
According to newspaper AD, many people from the media and broadcasting and a number of celebrities attended the event. They paid large amounts for a ticket to watch the Prime Minister's speech and have a sit down dinner.
NOS news at 8:00 p.m. came in second place with 2.1 million viewers, followed by travel program Floortje Naar Het Einde van de Wereld with just over 2 million.
