Report: Enschede official’s stabbing not linked to asylum debate

At this stage there is no evidence to suggest a link between the attack on the Enschede municipal official on Monday and the municipality's plans to open a asylum center in the city. The motive of the attack is still unknown. The municipality of Enschede confirmed this to RTV Oost. "We are all shocked about what happened", the municipality said. "Public office holders should be able to do their work in safety." A municipal official was attacked by two men in Enschede on Monday morning. It is believed that he was stabbed in the face with a box cutter while in a municipality car marked with stickers. The police are looking for witnesses. Following the attack, the municipality ordered all employees to stay out of sight. This restriction has now been lifted. The municipality gave this order for two reasons, according to the broadcaster. "To gain as much as possible insight into the actual situation and to create the opportunity to carefully have internal talks about what happened."
