Report: Enschede official stabbed in face with box cutter; Two men sought
The Enschede official who was attacked on the street on Monday, was stabbed in the face with a box cutter, according to RTL Nieuws. He was attacked by two men on the corner of Oosterstraat and the Telgendijk around 8:45 a.m.
According to the police, the official parked his car on a gravel driveway and another car pulled up behind him. Two men got out of the car, forced the official's car window open and attacked him. Once they were done, they got back into their car and slowly drove off on Oosterstraat.
The official was treated for his injuries and has pressed charges with the police.
The police are looking for witnesses of the attack. The perpetrators were driving a dark colored car, believed to be a recent model Volkswagen Golf. The first perpetrator is a white man around the age of 35 with a stout stature. He was wearing a black cap and gray jacket. He has a tattoo on his neck of an outline of heart and a white man. The second perpetrator is a white man with a petite stature and reddish hair.
So far very little is known about the motive for the attack. Enschede mayor Onno van Veldhuizen does not want to speculate on a motive. "I am aware that what is happening in society is leading to unrest. Let's not speculate about what could be the cause of this incident", he said to RTL Nieuws. "The municipality is shocked by what happened, violence against officials is always unacceptable. We have a zero tolerance policy."
