Badr Hari victim unnerved by limited prison sentence

Businessman Koen Everink was unnerved and disappointed to hear that his attacker, kickboxer Badr Hari, will only spend another seven or eight months in prison. On Thursday the court sentenced him to two years in prison, 10 months of which conditionally suspended. As Hari has been in custody for about 6 months, the effective sentence amounts to only approximately seven months.

Everink gave his reaction to Hari's sentence in an interview with the Telegraaf. Hari assaulted Everink in the Amsterdam ArenA in 2012. The businessman is still struggling with the mental and physical consequences of the severe beating.

He himself was not at the hearing. "I had my say at an earlier hearing because the truth must come out. But I find the whole circus around it terrible. The assault, which I believe was an attempted homicide, caused me not only a lot of personal damage, but also business wise."

In an earlier hearing, Hari apologized to Everink. But Everink feels that does not mean much. "I believe that regret means that you sincerely take responsibility for your actions. Badr Hari evades all responsibility", he said to the newspaper.
