Woman beaten to death after man slashes prostitute's throat

Two violent incidents in Leeuwarden on Monday afternoon left one woman badly injured and another woman dead. One man, a 38-year-old former psychiatric patient, has turned himself into the police in connection with both incidents. The first incident happened around 4:30 p.m. in a building on Weaze, Leeuwarden's red light district. The man entered the Moulin Rouge brothel and slit a young Bulgarian prostitutes throat after a struggle, newspaper AD reports. According to the police, the woman was taken to the hospital. Some 45 minutes later a middle-aged woman was beaten to death on Oude Lune. Witnesses told the newspaper that they saw a man beat her on the head with a bottle several times. Emergency services tried to save the woman's life, but their efforts were in vain and she died at the scene. The 38-year -old man turned himself in later that afternoon at a police station, just a few hundred meters from where the second victim was killed. He is in custody. The Leeuwarden police have placed a call for witnesses of both incidents to come forward on their Facebook page.
