My Red Light, Amsterdam's sex-worker run brothel, is in desperate need of rescue. The running of a safe and financially sound prostitution business by sex workers themselves is a too ambitious project, independent investigator Corrine Dettmeijer, formerly the National Rapporteur on Human Trafficking, concluded after investigating the business. "I think the municipality should never have started this", she said, Het Parool reports.
Four men were arrested in Leeuwarden during the early hours of Sunday morning for stealing money from a brothel on Weaze, the Leeuwarder Courant reports.
The men forced their way into the brothel's office, grabbed an unknown amount of money and fled the scene. The theft was filmed by surveillance cameras.
Based on the camera footage, the police identified and arrested the four men. The suspects are all from Het Bildt and aged 18, 23, 24 and 31 years. They are in custody for further investigation.
Two violent incidents in Leeuwarden on Monday afternoon left one woman badly injured and another woman dead. One man, a 38-year-old former psychiatric patient, has turned himself into the police in connection with both incidents.
Amsterdam Mayor Eberhard van der Laan has found a party that is interested in the premises of the brothel the municipality aims to open. The municipality announced in February that it wants to set up a brothel that is run by prostitutes themselves.
A new plan approved by Amsterdam Mayor Eberhard van der Laan and the city’s aldermen will try to strip the seediness from the Dutch capital’s famed prostitution business by making sex workers more like entrepreneurs, but the plan could turn the city into a brothel owner. The city is teaming up with non-profit organisation HVO-Querido to help guide some women working in the Red Light District into more career-focused people, while also making good on its pledge to reduce abuse and exploitation in the sex industry.
The former luxury brothel Yab Yum in Amsterdam may not again become a sex club. An application for a permit was rejected by Mayor Eberhard van der Laan.
The once most exclusive men's club of the Netherlands opens its doors to the general public. Visitors of Yab Yum Unlocked can now look around in places where the respected guests were not allowed before, like the changing rooms of the girls and the kitchen full of caviar and champagne.
