More remains collected at MH17 site return to Netherlands

The first mortal remains and personal belongings of the victims of flight MH17 found after May 1 are to be brought over to the Netherlands from the Ukraine. A Dutch team comprising of military, police and foreign affairs personnel will also collect wreckage that is to be returned. Families of the last two unidentified victims were invited for an arrival ceremony at Schiphol Airport. Reports from the Dutch government indicate that the identification process has been largely completed and ceremonial formalities for the mortal remains have been changed. A formal moment of reflection will be held at Schiphol Airport upon arrival of the remains and the ceremonial reception will be conducted by the Royal Netherlands Military Police, out of media presence. The remains and material were found in the vicinity of the ‘burn site’ near Hrabove in the Ukraine, where flight MH17 came down. The Dutch embassy in Kiev will coordinate the transportation of evidence to Kharkiv, where it will then be sent on to the Netherlands for presentation to the Research Council for Security and the Public Prosecutor’s office.
