Security tightened at Turkish mosques amid Kurdish border tensions

The police have decided to increase security at Turkish mosques in the Rotterdam region due to the increasing tension between Turks and Kurds. According to the Telegraaf, this involves six prayer houses in Rotterdam, Vlaardingen, Schiedam and Dordrecht. The police are providing extra surveillance with buses and also extra unobtrusive security. The decision for extra security was made after a number of incidents last week, the newspaper reports. The Turkish foundation Versam in Rotterdam had their windows smashed. The same happened to a Turkish association in Schiedam. The increased tension and violence between Turks and Kurds in Turkey has cost dozens of lives over the past few months, according to the Parool. There are concerns that these tensions will transfer to Europe.
