Amsterdam Gay Pride revelers told to protect their mobile phones

With the Amsterdam Gay Pride boat parade happening tomorrow, the police are once again warning visitors to be careful of pickpockets and to protect their mobile phones. Busy events like the boat parade are very popular with pickpockets, as the crowded streets make it difficult to determine whether someone just accidentally bumped into you or picked your pocket. The police are therefore advising that everyone visiting the parade tomorrow install a Find my phone app on their mobile phones. This will make it much easier for the police to trace the thief if a phone gets stolen. Also ensure that your smartphone is password protected. The police are deploying extra officers during the event to keep an eye out for pickpockets. There will also be several officers with the express duty of tracing stolen phones using the tracking app. This will increase the chances of pickpockets being arrested as well as the chances of the phone being returned to the rightful owner. Apple users can install the Find My iPhone app from the Apple store. Android users can find several phone tracking apps on the Play Store, for example Where's My Droid. If your phone gets stolen report the crime by calling 112. Give the police the login details of your iCloud or Google account. Also give the police a telephone number where you can be reached. Remember to change your account password after the police are done.
