Forensic institute can't keep up with drug busts

The intensive approach to drug crimes int south of the Netherlands is delivering so many results that the Netherlands Forensic Institute can't keep up with investigating all the trace evidence collected. A large amount of such evidence is being stored until the NFI has the capacity to look at it, the Telegraaf reports. "We are running into capacity constraints." Chief prosecutor Roger Bos told the newspaper. "There is a longer processing time for traces that emerge in drug cases. This has an impact on police investigations: you often need technical evidence to keep criminals in custody if they themselves will not say anything." According to Bos, the possibility of foreign laboratories relieving the NFI is being investigated.
