Monster truck driver to be prosecuted for fatal accident
Monster truck driver Mario Doornink and Stichting Sterevenementen will be prosecuted for the fatal monster truck accident in Haaksbergen. Doornink and the foundation will face charges of manslaughter and inflicting grievous bodily harm, NOS reports.
Stichting Sterevenementen was the organizer of the event in Haaksbergen in September last year. During the event, Doornink drove a monster truck into the audience, killing three people and injuring 28 others.
The municipality of Haaksbergen will not be prosecuted, despite heavy criticism on the granting of the event's permit. Two weeks ago mayor Hans Gerritsen stepped down because the city council had lost confidence in him after the Safety Board's report on the accident.
The first hearing on the case against Doornink and Stichting Sterevenementen will be in September.
