Gunmen storm Kabul hotel killing 11, injuring Dutchman

A Dutchman was injured when three gunmen stormed a hotel in Kabul, the capital of Afghanistan. The Afghan police say that at least 11 people were killed in the attack, BBC reports. Three gunmen stormed the Palace Park Hotel on Wednesday night and took a number of people hostage. A party for foreigners and wealthy Afghans was underway at the time of the attack, RTL Nieuws reports. BBC reports that a US citizen and two Indians were among those who were killed. Two suspected gunmen were also among the dead. According to the Afghan police, they were shot before they could carry out a suicide attack. The Taliban has claimed responsibility for the attack, which lasted 5 hours. "The attack was planned carefully to target the party which important people and Americans were attending", the group said in a statement.
