Nearly all use internet daily, incl. 76 pct. of elderly

Last year 9 out of 10 Dutch people made daily use of the internet. This is according to figures published by Statistics Netherlands today. The percentage of people who use the internet on a daily basis increased from 68 percent in 2005 to 90 percent last year. There was an especially significant increase among the elderly. More than three quarters of people between the ages of 65 and 75 years used the internet every day in 2014, compared to only 43 percent in 2005. 96 percent of Dutch households had internet access last year, compared to 78 percent in 2005. The households with broadband internet access also showed a significant increase, from 50 percent in 2005 to 90 percent last year. Online shopping is becoming increasingly popular. In 2005 50 percent of internet users shopped online. That percentage increased to 77 percent last year. Listening to the radio and watching television online increased from 26 percent in 2005 to 63 percent last year.
